Turkey's government is once again trying to keep its population ignorant of the existence of criticism by blocking YouTube. The issue is "a video that a court said insults the country's founder, its president, its prime minister and its army." Such a bunch of turkeys.
Volkswagen has issued a DMCA-based subpoena to YouTube demanding information about the identity of someone who posted a parody of a VW commercial. According to the Citizens Media Law Project article, this kind of subpoena doesn't require showing that the copyright infringement claim has any merit, and the recipient of the subpoena has little recourse. Creation Science Evangelism has issued takedown notices against videos by the Rational Response Squad which allegedly violate its copyright. But -- CSE had explicitly put the material in question in the public domain and invited its redistribution! This seems to indicate that CSE is knowingly issuing bogus takedown notices; it could be subject charges of perjury for its action.
