Blog piracy on dustdiary.com

I've written to domainsbyproxy.com, which hosts dustdiary.com, but received no response so far. I'm afraid I might have to get a lawyer to get the blog which pirated the content of mine removed.

I'm not thrilled with the prospect. If my experience with eyada.com is any guide, I could end up with a lawyer who'll write up a complaint about "imaginary posts," insist repeatedly that I don't have enough of a case, and pocket the money without ever submitting a single document to a court.

But I'm not the only person whose work is being stolen; and some of the others may, unlike me, be making money from their blogging and thus have a financial base from which to initiate legal action. So to get things moving, here is a list of items that have been lifted by Dustdiary blogs, with links to the places they've been stolen from. Since people often check trackbacks on their posts, some of them may notice just from this post. I may attempt to contact some of them. (The second column represents what I've found with a search; it's possible that they aren't the originals either.)

Be careful if you decide to look at dustdiary.com. I viewed its pages with my browser solidly locked down -- no Javascript, no Flash, no Windows -- but I wouldn't be surprised if it contains malware.

parlancheq: As soon as I can gather the necessary information, I'll be firing off a DMCA takedown notice to GoDaddy and DomainsByProxy. This is one case where that law can be used for a legitimate purpose. I'll post further information to this blog when I have it. If you do the same on behalf of your own blog, that'll improve the chances of getting some action. I'm hoping it's simple enough that I can do it without a lawyer.

Another case of blog plagiarism, though this one seems to be an individual crazy.

Thank you for this. I found my own work on this parasite's splog yesterday. I posted about it today (and scrambling to take down the live links after reading this post).

A reminder to all concerned: If you post to your blog about how evil dustdiary.com is and fill your post with links to demonstrate your point, you're boosting dustdiary.com's search engine rank and thus its revenue. I want to post links to denunciations of dustdiary, but won't if I'd be indirectly contributing to its income in that way.

A "link" is an Anchor tag, something you can click on. URL fragments, without the tag and without the http prefix, are sufficient to convey the information.

Also keep in mind that a site as sleazy as dustdiary.com may well be trying to inflict malware on visitors. Turn off Javascript first.

Thanks for letting us know our blogs are being pirated. I am on a very old PC, so I won't be going to that website right now....

Hi Gary

Found your blog when trying to find out more info on them as someone with them has taken several of my posts from Cardamom Addict and posted them (sans piccies). FWIW, the offending member site's name is warnzdorf...

I'm surprised your lawyer was like that...open and shut copyright infringement (talked to a copyright expert when a company scalped my posts to be used as marketing tools...)
